Accepted Answer

Each provider is scored out of 10 on six dimensions, for a total out of 100. Four of the six — pricing transparency, hosted records, free access and MSP support — are derived mechanically from facts checked against the vendor's own published material, using the same mapping for every vendor. The remaining two, path to enforcement and analysis automation, are editorial judgements, marked as such, each published with its reasoning and a source. Scores were last reviewed on 2026-07-29.

Question 2

Which providers are ranked, and on what basis?

Accepted Answer

Every provider we publish a comparison page for is ranked — all 18 of them, plus Palisade, for 19 rows. A provider only enters the table once all four of its derived facts (pricing transparency, hosted records, free access, MSP support) have been checked against its own published material and dated. Nothing is scored from memory, and a fact we could not source would keep a vendor out rather than earn it a zero.

What is a DMARC monitoring tool?

Accepted Answer

A DMARC monitoring tool collects the aggregate (RUA) reports that receiving mail servers send back about your domain, parses the raw XML, and turns it into a readable view of who is sending mail as you — which sources pass SPF and DKIM alignment, which fail, and what share of your volume each represents. Without one you receive the reports as compressed XML attachments and have to read them by hand.

What is a DMARC analyzer?

A DMARC analyzer is the tool that turns the aggregate XML reports receivers send back into something a person can read: which services are sending as your domain, whether each one passes SPF and DKIM alignment, and what share of your volume it represents. The reports themselves arrive as compressed XML attachments, one per reporting organisation per day, so the analyzer is what makes them usable at all. Every platform in the table above analyses reports; they differ in what they do next — some stop at charts, some walk you through each fix, and some act on the findings and propose the policy change themselves.

What is the difference between a DMARC monitoring service and a DMARC analyzer?

Accepted Answer

In practice the terms overlap, but they describe different amounts of work being done for you. An analyzer parses and visualises report data and leaves the decisions to you. A monitoring service adds ongoing alerting when something changes — a new sending source appears, alignment drops — so you are not relying on remembering to check a dashboard. Managed services go further and make the DNS changes on your behalf. The scoreboard above splits this along two dimensions: analysis automation, and the path to enforcement.

Do I need a DMARC tool, or can I read the reports myself?

You can read them yourself: aggregate reports are XML, and for one domain with a handful of sending sources that is genuinely workable. It stops scaling when the number of domains or sources grows, because each report covers one reporting organisation for one day — so a week of mail across ten domains is hundreds of files. Teams usually adopt a tool at the point where identifying an unfamiliar sending IP by hand starts costing more than the subscription.

Which DMARC tool is best for MSPs?

It depends on how the client book is priced and who does the work. Palisade, Valimail, EasyDMARC, Suped, PowerDMARC, Mailhardener, Red Sift OnDMARC, Sendmarc, dmarcian, Hornetsecurity and Barracuda all run an MSP or partner program. Sendmarc is fully managed under your own brand; Palisade, EasyDMARC and Red Sift OnDMARC offer per-domain economics with PSA integrations; Barracuda reaches ConnectWise, Autotask and HaloPSA through BarracudaONE; dmarcian is the pick if you want fully published pricing and are happy managing your own DNS.

Which DMARC tool is best for a single domain?

Accepted Answer

For one domain the deciding factors are usually cost and how much guidance you want, not multi-tenancy. Every provider with a free plan — ${FREE_PLAN} — will monitor a single domain at no cost, with different limits. If you want the platform to explain and re-check each fix rather than just show you data, that is the guided-platform category; if you would rather it act and propose the policy change itself, that is the agent-based category.

Which DMARC tools have a genuinely free plan?

Accepted Answer

Palisade, Valimail, EasyDMARC, Suped, PowerDMARC, Mailhardener, dmarcian, Cloudflare DMARC Management, Postmark DMARC Digests and parsedmarc all publish a free plan, though the limits differ sharply — Valimail's free Monitor tier gives visibility rather than enforcement, dmarcian's free Personal plan is for non-business use, Cloudflare's requires the domain's DNS to be on Cloudflare, and parsedmarc is free because you host it yourself. Red Sift OnDMARC, Sendmarc, Hornetsecurity, DMARCLY, URIports, Mimecast and Barracuda offer a trial rather than a free plan.

What is the difference between free DMARC monitoring and a paid plan?

Accepted Answer

Free tiers are generally metered on domains, monthly email volume, and how long report history is retained — Suped's free plan, for example, covers one domain, 1,000 emails a month and 14 days of retention. Paid plans lift those limits and are usually where hosted records, alerting, multi-tenant management and support move in. If a free tier covers your volume and you only need visibility, it is a real option rather than a trial in disguise.

What is the difference between SPF, DKIM and DMARC?

Accepted Answer

SPF lists which servers may send for your domain. DKIM signs each message so a receiver can verify it was not altered and came from you. DMARC sits on top of both: it tells receivers what to do when a message fails, and asks them to report back. You need all three, and a DMARC tool is what makes the reporting half usable. Which DMARC providers host your SPF, DKIM and DMARC records?

Accepted Answer

Hosted records mean the provider serves the records for you, so changes do not need a DNS ticket each time. Palisade, Valimail, EasyDMARC, Suped, PowerDMARC, Red Sift OnDMARC, Sendmarc, Hornetsecurity, Agari and Proofpoint all host the SPF, DKIM and DMARC set — the scope differs, and on some plans hosted SPF is an add-on. Several others host only part of it: Mimecast delegates SPF, while URIports and Mailhardener host MTA-STS policies but not DMARC or SPF. dmarcian deliberately hosts nothing, to avoid lock-in.

Question 13

Should I run p=quarantine or p=reject?

Accepted Answer

Both are enforcement. Quarantine tells receivers to treat failing mail as suspicious, usually routing it to spam; reject tells them to refuse it outright. The normal sequence is p=none to observe, then quarantine once your legitimate sources are aligned, then reject. Moving to reject before every real sender passes alignment is what causes legitimate mail to disappear — which is the actual argument for having reporting in place first.

How long does it take to reach p=reject?

Accepted Answer

It depends almost entirely on how many sending sources your domain has and how quickly you can fix or authorise each one. The work is: collect enough report data to see every real sender, align each of them with SPF or DKIM, then step the policy up. A domain with two or three sources can be done in a couple of weeks; an organisation with dozens of marketing, billing and ticketing systems takes months. Any provider promising enforcement on a fixed timeline is describing their process, not your sender inventory.

What should a DMARC tool cost?

Accepted Answer

Palisade, Mailhardener, dmarcian, Cloudflare DMARC Management, DMARCLY, URIports, Postmark DMARC Digests and parsedmarc publish a full price list; the rest quote at least their top tier. Published entry pricing starts around $1.25-$24 a month for a single domain, with several free tiers below that. Above that, pricing models diverge sharply: some meter email volume, some meter domains, some meter both plus retention, and enterprise or MSP pricing is frequently quote-only. That is why pricing transparency is one of the six scored dimensions — checked 2026-07-29, only some vendors publish a full price list.

Can I switch DMARC providers without downtime?

Accepted Answer

Yes, if you sequence it. Because DMARC reporting is driven by the rua address in your DNS record, you can point reports at the new provider before decommissioning the old one, and run both in parallel while history builds up. The part that needs care is hosted records: if your current provider serves your SPF, DKIM or DMARC records via delegation, those have to be recreated or re-delegated before you remove the old configuration.

Do I still need a DMARC tool if I use Google Workspace or Microsoft 365?

Accepted Answer

Both platforms will authenticate your own outbound mail, and both give you some visibility into it. Neither shows you the full picture DMARC reports carry, because those reports come from every receiver your domain sends to — including mail sent on your behalf by marketing, billing, CRM and ticketing systems that never touch your mail platform. Cloudflare and Postmark both offer DMARC reporting alongside their main products; both appear in the comparisons above.

Palisade comes out top on the composite, but it is scored by the same rubric as everyone else and does not win every dimension — Valimail and Sendmarc both score higher on the path to enforcement.
