What sender data does Yahoo Postmaster provide?

What sender data does Yahoo Postmaster provide?

Yahoo's current postmaster destination is Yahoo Sender Hub. Its standard Insights dashboard shows aggregated Delivered volume and Spam Complaint Rate for a verified DKIM domain. Its separate Complaint Feedback Loop (CFL) can send an Abuse Reporting Format report when a Yahoo-hosted user marks a covered message as spam. Yahoo also publishes SMTP error guidance, while its more detailed placement and campaign-performance feeds are a separate-access program rather than the normal Sender Hub dashboard.

Do not look for one universal Yahoo reputation grade. Yahoo's current Sender Hub FAQ documents delivered volume and complaint rate as the standard Insights signals. It also says there is no Insights API at present and that Yahoo no longer offers an IP- or CIDR-based complaint feedback loop.

That makes Yahoo's standard view narrower than the dashboards explained in the Google Postmaster Tools guide. Microsoft uses a different combination, covered in the guide to Microsoft's closest Google Postmaster Tools equivalent. Use each provider's own telemetry for its own recipient network.

If an external IP benchmark and Yahoo's evidence disagree, the low Sender Score diagnostic explains how to compare the same IP, time window, and production stream without treating either system as a universal verdict.

Quick takeaways

  • Sender Hub Insights reports aggregate delivered volume and spam complaint rate for verified DKIM domains.
  • Yahoo calculates the displayed complaint rate using messages delivered to the inbox, not every attempted or accepted message.
  • Data rolls up under the selected DKIM signing domain. Several From domains can therefore contribute to one view.
  • Insights and the Complaint Feedback Loop are separate services. You do not need CFL enrollment to view Insights.
  • CFL reports are DKIM-domain-based ARF complaint events, not a domain reputation score.
  • Yahoo's Placement Feed and Campaign Performance Feed expose more data, but Yahoo describes them as a separate program with access requirements.
Yahoo Sender Hub data sources and the question each one answers

Sender Hub does not collapse every signal into one reputation score. Match Insights, CFL reports, SMTP replies, and any separately provisioned performance feed to the question you need to answer. Open the full-size Yahoo sender-data map.

Who is affected?

This data matters to organizations that send subscription, marketing, or other bulk mail to domains hosted by Yahoo, including Yahoo and AOL consumer mailboxes. The people operating the program may be a brand, an email service provider (ESP), an internal email team, or an MSP.

Ownership matters because Yahoo groups the standard dashboard by the DKIM signing domain. The visible From domain, the envelope sender, the sending IP, and the DKIM d= value can belong to different parties. If an ESP signs with its own domain and handles complaints centrally, the brand may not be the party that can activate or interpret that domain's Sender Hub data.

Begin with a delivered production message. Record the visible From domain, every DKIM d= value, the sending IP, the stream or campaign identifier, and the Yahoo-hosted recipient domain. That identity map tells you which Sender Hub account and data source could contain relevant evidence.

What data does Yahoo Sender Hub Insights show?

Yahoo's Sender Hub FAQ lists two current Insights signals for verified DKIM domains:

  • Delivered: Yahoo displays the sum of delivered messages for the selected timeframe. It can show whether Yahoo observed enough traffic for the selected DKIM domain and how volume changed. It does not prove inbox placement for every message, attempted volume, or delivery at another provider.
  • Spam Complaint Rate: Yahoo displays the average complaint rate for the selected timeframe. It can show whether inbox-delivered Yahoo traffic generated more or fewer complaints. It does not reveal the cause of every complaint, a complete reputation grade, or an individual message's final folder.
The top of the graph also compares the selected period with the preceding period. Yahoo says the data includes the Yahoo-managed domains in its reporting and is displayed in UTC.

The DKIM rollup changes how you interpret the graph

Insights is selected by verified DKIM domain. If several From domains or sending programs use the same DKIM d= value, Yahoo rolls their data together under that signing domain. A complaint-rate rise may therefore belong to one stream inside a broader aggregate.

Do not respond by pausing every sender immediately. First split your own first-party data by DKIM domain, From domain, campaign, audience source, send time, and sending IP. Then look for the smallest segment whose change matches the Yahoo window.

Yahoo's complaint-rate denominator is narrower than many internal reports

Yahoo says its displayed spam complaint rate is calculated from messages delivered to the inbox. Your ESP may divide complaints by accepted mail, all delivered mail, or total attempted mail. Those denominators are not interchangeable.

Use Yahoo's number to understand Yahoo's enforcement signal. Use your own consistent denominator to compare campaigns internally. If the two rates differ, document the formula before assuming that one system lost events.

What does the Complaint Feedback Loop provide?

The Yahoo Complaint Feedback Loop is a domain-based service for DKIM-signed mail. When a message uses an enrolled DKIM signing domain and a recipient marks it as spam, Yahoo can send the enrolled reporting address an ARF complaint report. Yahoo describes the operational purpose plainly: identify the complaint and suppress that recipient from future campaign mail.

Yahoo's FAQ says its ARF reports contain a human-readable part, machine-readable feedback metadata, and the original message headers. Those fields help the complaint processor match the event to a sending domain, message, stream, and recipient suppression record.

CFL is not the same as Insights:

  • Insights provides aggregate delivered-volume and complaint-rate trends in the dashboard.
  • CFL provides complaint events for covered DKIM-signed messages so the sender or ESP can suppress and investigate them.
  • CFL enrollment is not required to view Insights, and activating Insights does not enroll the domain in CFL.
Yahoo no longer offers an IP- or CIDR-based CFL. Enrollment follows the DKIM d= identity, not the connecting IP and not automatically the visible From domain. For the full enrollment and ownership workflow, use the Yahoo DKIM feedback-loop guide.

What other Yahoo sender evidence is available?

SMTP replies explain an individual delivery attempt

Sender Hub Insights is aggregated. An SMTP response is transaction evidence. Yahoo's SMTP error reference distinguishes temporary 4xx conditions from permanent 5xx failures and lists possible authentication, complaint, traffic-pattern, reputation, DNS, and policy causes.

Preserve the complete enhanced status text, recipient domain, source IP, timestamp, and queue ID. A rising complaint-rate graph cannot tell you which SMTP branch handled one message, and one 4xx reply cannot summarize the domain's full complaint trend.

Placement and campaign performance feeds are separate-access products

Yahoo also documents an Email Deliverability and Performance Feeds program with two aggregated feeds:

  • The Placement Feed includes counts for inbox, spam, folder, error, and complaint outcomes, with dimensions such as DKIM domain, sender domain, source IP, and approved campaign headers.
  • The Campaign Performance Feed includes delivered, opened, clicked, deleted, read, forwarded, replied, archived, moved, marked-spam, and dwell-time counts grouped by sender domain and campaign.
Yahoo states that these feeds report aggregate counts rather than user-level behavior. It publishes separate delivery schedules, retention, UTC timestamps, and Avro schemas. The same page asks interested organizations to contact Yahoo about the program and its access requirements. Do not assume that verifying a domain in Sender Hub automatically enables these feeds.

What are the requirements?

For standard Insights data, Yahoo requires the DKIM domain to be added and verified in the Sender Hub account, then activated in the dashboard. Yahoo says a minimum daily volume threshold must be met before it displays data. After activation, the first data can take 24 to 48 hours to appear.

For CFL reports, the production message must be DKIM-signed with an enrolled d= domain. The reporting address must be controlled and verified during enrollment. If an ESP operates the signing domain, confirm whether it enrolls the domain and processes suppressions on your behalf.

Yahoo's sender requirements are a different layer. They cover authentication, low complaint rates, DNS, RFC compliance, and one-click unsubscribe for applicable bulk subscription mail. Use the Gmail and Yahoo authentication requirements guide for the implementation checklist. Meeting those requirements does not guarantee that every message reaches the inbox, and a populated dashboard does not prove compliance by itself.

When does the requirement take effect?

Insights begins only after the domain is verified, activated, and sending enough Yahoo-observed daily volume. The dashboard is not a real-time message trace. Allow for Yahoo's stated 24-to-48-hour activation delay and compare complete UTC windows.

CFL coverage begins when the relevant DKIM domain is enrolled and production mail actually uses it. Changing a selector under the same d= domain does not change the enrolled domain, but moving a stream to a different DKIM signing domain can create a coverage gap until that domain is verified and enrolled.

Yahoo evaluates complaint behavior continuously. Its sender guidance sets 0.3% as the bulk-sender enforcement threshold, not as a safe operating target or a promise that mail below it will reach the inbox. Investigate sustained movement and stream-level causes before the aggregate crosses a published limit.

How do I implement the requirement?

1. Inventory the production identities

Collect representative Yahoo-delivered messages from every material stream. Record the From domain, DKIM d= and selector, envelope sender, sending IP, campaign ID, and owner. Do not enroll a domain based only on brand naming.

2. Add and verify the DKIM domain

Use Yahoo Sender Hub to add the actual signing domain. Publish the account-provided DNS verification value exactly as shown, wait for it to resolve publicly, and complete verification. Never copy a verification token from another account or example.

3. Activate and label Insights ownership

Open Dashboard, select the verified DKIM domain, and activate Insights. Record which team owns access, the activation date, the UTC reporting window, and which streams roll into that domain.

4. Confirm CFL responsibility

Ask the ESP or sending-platform owner whether it already enrolls the signing domain and processes Yahoo complaints. If your organization owns the process, enroll the verified domain, verify the reporting mailbox, and route ARF messages into a monitored suppression workflow.

5. Correlate, then change one owned cause

Compare Yahoo's complaint-rate movement with first-party sends, acquisition sources, frequency, unsubscribes, bounces, content changes, and SMTP responses. Pause or repair the smallest evidenced segment. Avoid changing DNS, IPs, content, and list rules at once, because that destroys the comparison.

6. Decide whether standard data is enough

Most senders can operate with Insights, CFL, SMTP logs, and first-party campaign data. If the organization needs Yahoo's aggregated placement or engagement schemas at larger scale, review the performance-feed documentation and ask Yahoo about eligibility. Treat that as a separate integration project.

How do I validate compliance?

  • Confirm that the selected Sender Hub domain matches the passing DKIM d= value on current Yahoo-bound mail.
  • Confirm the domain is verified and Insights is activated in the correct account.
  • Wait through the stated activation delay and verify that a complete UTC day meeting the volume threshold appears.
  • Reconcile Delivered and Spam Complaint Rate with the same date range and documented denominator in your own reports.
  • Confirm CFL status for every production DKIM domain and test the internal ARF intake and suppression pipeline without generating a real recipient complaint.
  • Preserve fresh SMTP replies for deferred or rejected mail instead of inferring transaction causes from the dashboard.
  • After a scoped repair, compare a like-for-like stream and audience over the next complete reporting window.
If Yahoo evidence identifies an authentication problem, Palisade's Email Security Score can check public SPF, DKIM, and DMARC configuration. It cannot sign in to Sender Hub, retrieve Insights, confirm CFL enrollment, calculate Yahoo's complaint rate, or predict inbox placement. DMARC reporting can help inventory which services send as your domains, but it remains separate from Yahoo's delivery and complaint telemetry.

Frequently asked questions

Does Yahoo Postmaster show a domain reputation score?

No. Yahoo's current public Sender Hub documentation lists Delivered and Spam Complaint Rate as the standard Insights signals. It does not document a Google-style domain reputation grade in that dashboard. Use the available Yahoo signals, SMTP outcomes, and your own stream data rather than inventing a label.

Is Sender Hub Insights the same as the Yahoo Complaint Feedback Loop?

No. Insights is an aggregate dashboard. CFL sends ARF complaint reports for covered mail signed by an enrolled DKIM domain. Yahoo says the services are not connected, and CFL enrollment is not required to view Insights.

Why is my verified domain not showing data?

Yahoo says the domain must be verified and Insights activated, the first data can take 24 to 48 hours, and a minimum daily volume threshold must be met. Also confirm that current mail uses the selected DKIM d= domain.

Can I retrieve Sender Hub Insights through an API?

Not currently. Yahoo's FAQ says there is no API access to Insights at the moment. The separately documented placement and campaign-performance feeds are different products with their own access process and schemas.

Does Yahoo offer an IP-based complaint feedback loop?

No. Yahoo says it no longer offers IP- or CIDR-based CFL reporting. Current enrollment is tied to DKIM signing domains.

Will a complaint rate below 0.3% guarantee inbox delivery?

No. The published percentage is an enforcement threshold for bulk senders, not a delivery guarantee. Yahoo can evaluate authentication, reputation, sending behavior, content, DNS, RFC compliance, and other signals for each stream and message.
